This is NOT the cast of the Perfect 10 TV show

The farmers market is already bustling in downtown Anaheim every Thursday afternoon, with food vendors, live music and more.

This Thursday, it will be even more bustling, with an open casting call for a new NBC TV show to be called “Perfect 10.” No, we’re not talking about Bo Derek, this is a game show where contestants can win $1 million.

Apparently contestants have to do 10 things within 60 seconds, such as unrolling a roll of toilet paper with their bodies. Heck, my kids would do that for fun.

The show will be casting at the farmer’s market between 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday.

Here’s the press release:

Series Will Feature In-Studio Competition as Contestants Face 10 Deceptively Simple Games for Chance to Win $1 Million

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. - September 29, 2009 - NBC announced today a new family-friendly competition series “Perfect 10″ — an in-studio game show designed for both American audiences and the international marketplace — featuring 10 deceptively simple games that require savvy contestants to complete under pressure with a prize of $1 million awaiting the winner.

Over eight one-hour episodes, competitors will face 10 challenges that escalate in level of difficulty. Each game has a 60-second time limit and failure to finish the task on time will eliminate the contestant. At various points throughout the game, the contestant can walk away with the money earned up to that point, but it’ll take nerves of steel to complete all 10 tasks to win the $1 million.

Don’t miss out on your opportunity to win $1 million!!!

Bonjour. Here are your deals for Wednesday, Sept. 23

September 23rd, 2009, 4:50 am by Marla Jo Fisher, Staff Writer

wednesdayaddamsDo you like Wednesdays? They’re transitional days, aren’t they? Halfway between the work week and the weekend.

They tend to be good days to find bargains, because the supermarket specials start for the week, and also lots of other specials, such as “kids eat free.”

Our mascot for Wednesdays of course has to be Wednesday Addams, the iconic daughter of the creepy Addams family, who was generally seen but not heard on the TV show when I was a kid. But, we still liked you, Wednesday. I don’t think any songs have been written about Wednesdays, none that I can think of, anyway.

Head to Irvine Saturdays for the Farmer’s Market

September 22nd, 2009, 9:40 pm by Marla Jo Fisher, Staff Writer

vegetablesNearly 100 vendors pack this farmers market every Saturday, attracting people from everywhere looking for specialty items they can’t find anywhere else.

Located across from UC Irvine at the University Town Center, this is the most jamming place in Irvine on Saturday mornings.

Farmers that cater to expatriate cultures, such as Middle Eastern, Indian, Chinese and more each have their own specific customers who come to Irvine just to buy their wares.

Trish Harrison, who manages the market, said there are even vendors who sell Taiwanese and Filipino vegetables who attract their own followings. Read the rest of this entry »

Here’s a list of OC Farmers Markets

vegetablesFarmer’s markets are a fabulous place to get the best, freshest food, save money and have fun.

This list of certified markets comes courtesy of the Orange County Farm Bureau, which runs and inspects these markets:

What is a CERTIFIED FARMERS’ MARKET? California certified farmers’ markets are the real thing - places where genuine farmers sell fruits, nuts and vegetables directly to the public. Every farmer who sells at a certified market is inspected by the county agricultural commissioner to make sure he/she actually grows the commodity being sold.

Farmers market in Laguna Niguel

May 26th, 2009, 10:43 am by Marla Jo Fisher, Staff Writer

Reader Lainie Freedman wrote to tell me about her favorite farmer’s market. Here’s her email:

My favorite farmers’ market is in Laguna Niguel at LaPaz and Pacific
Park on Sundays from 9 am to 1pm.

They have the best fruits and veggies, the best variety, the freshest
and much of it is organic.  It is all local. You can find Asian
greens and tropical fruits locally grown you’ll never see in a market.
There is also great bread,  Italian foods, Mediterranean food, fresh
fish and eggs and  flowers.

The vendors are warm and friendly. They are a diverse group, just as
the customers are.  I like to speak Spanish at the market.

It’s nice to be outside.  I never miss a Sunday morning at the
Farmers Market in Laguna Niguel.
