Home Depot is offering you $3 per string if you bring in your old incandescent Christmas lights to trade in for new energy-saving LED lights, even if they’re broken.  Let’s face it, when was the last time you got $3 for something broken?

This deal is good Nov. 5 through Nov. 15, and you can get the trade-in on up to five strings of lights.

If you do this, you save two ways: You not only get a $3 discount on your new lights, but you also save on electricity, because the new LED lights use 80% less electricity for the same amount of juice.

Other reasons to like LED lights:

• They give off almost no heat, so they won’t dry out your Christmas tree or cause fires
• They last 10,000 hours, so you’ll never have to change another bulb unless you live for 500 years
• They give pure white light instead of the yellowish glow of incandescent light
• They decrease global warming by reducing energy use

Hey, even Tim “The Tool Man” Taylor could appreciate that, right? Maybe he wouldn’t blow out his fuses every year.

Now, if they could only find a system to keep my lights from getting all tangled up!
