How NOT to save on Halloween candy

angelsstencilBoo! What do you call a Halloween grinch?

I clicked on this Bargaineering post by Jim Wang called “How to save on Halloween candy” thinking they might have good ideas.

But what is his top idea?

Don’t be at home.

That is just lousy!

That’s like teasing you with ideas on how to save on Christmas presents and then saying, “Don’t give any.”

Another lousy idea: Recycle candy.

Right. Take your kids trick or treating candy away from them, and give it out to new kids. Yeah, that would go over big in my house.  Sobbing fest on Halloween.

True, it would save a dentist bill or two, but my kids love their candy! I let them eat two pieces a day, and after a week or two they forget about it and I throw it away.

The only idea I actually like is “buy cheaper candy.” Right. Since I moved into a more upscale neighborhood, I’ve noticed the neighbors here give out expensive chocolate. Yum, thanks, but we’ll still keep giving out Smarties at our house.

At my house, I have learned also that Mommy gives out the candy. I give two pieces. If I let my kids near the bowl, they will empty half of it into one kid’s bag.

By the way, click here if you want the free stencil to make this super cute Angels Jack o’ lantern!

We recycle candy, but my daughter’s a picky candy eater and has no problem giving away half the stuff in her bucket. When we get home we have her take out anything she doesn’t like and set it aside for an emergency stash in case we run out of candy.

My kids won’t eat Tootsie Rolls. I don’t blame them, they’re not my favorite either. Too bad they’re cheap.
